EDUCATION
Sunday School
During the school year a special message is offered for children and youth during the worship service, and following that they are invited to join two or more teachers for a lesson geared specifically towards them, often featuring arts and crafts!
Typically youth stay in worship during Communion Sundays and on special occasions.
Our Whole Lives
Normandy Park UCC, frequently in partnership with other local UCC churches, offers a special sexuality education course called Our Whole Lives (OWL). The curriculum is developed in partnership with the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and is an award-winning comprehensive, medically-accurate, age-appropriate, holistic, justice-based curriculum with classes for a variety of age groups. Wider UCC Events
Every two years the UCC offers events for the wider denomination, and Normandy Park UCC sends several youth to each. Recent trips have been to Western Regional Youth Events in Billings, Seattle, and Hawaii and National Youth Events at Purdue University and Disney World. These trips provide attendees with the opportunity to meet other UCC youth from across the country, participate in mission projects, hear nationally renowned speakers, and worship in a context much larger than they are typically accustomed to.
Adult Education
Adult education and spiritual formation classes are offered as a series several times each year. Check out our Home Page for our current classes, dates and times. Recent books and topics have included: dear white peacemakers, Native, Original Blessing: Putting Sin In Its Rightful Place, the Ten Commandments, the Book of Revelation, the Reformation, the enneagram, and labyrinths. Visitors are always welcome and don't need to attend worship in order to come to class.
